Amari Cooper Traded to Browns for Three-Round Pick
Cooper Fills Major Hole for Browns, Browns Get Another Weapon
The Cleveland Browns have acquired wide receiver Amari Cooper from the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the teams announced Wednesday.
Cooper, a four-time Pro Bowler, has been one of the most productive receivers in the NFL since entering the league in 2015. He has recorded at least 1,000 receiving yards in four of his seven seasons, including each of the past three years with the Cowboys.
The Browns have been in need of a true No. 1 wide receiver since trading Odell Beckham Jr. to the Los Angeles Rams in November. Cooper fills that void and gives quarterback Deshaun Watson a much-needed weapon in the passing game.
For the Cowboys, the trade allows them to move on from Cooper's $20 million salary cap hit in 2023. The Cowboys are also expected to release quarterback Dak Prescott, which will save them another $24 million in cap space.
The Browns are now considered one of the favorites in the AFC after adding Cooper to their already talented roster. The Browns have a strong defense led by Myles Garrett and Denzel Ward, and they have a dynamic offense led by Watson and Nick Chubb.
