Amari Cooper Traded: What You Need to Know
Cooper to Leave Cleveland for Atlanta
The Cleveland Browns and Atlanta Falcons have agreed to a trade involving wide receiver Amari Cooper. The Browns will receive a fifth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft for Cooper and a sixth-round pick.
Cooper, 28, has been with the Browns since 2020 after being acquired in a trade with the Dallas Cowboys. In two seasons in Cleveland, Cooper recorded 151 receptions, 1,817 receiving yards, and 15 touchdowns.
Falcons Add Experienced Target
The Falcons are getting a proven receiver in Cooper, who has five seasons with at least 1,000 receiving yards and four seasons with at least eight touchdowns.
Cooper will join a Falcons offense that features quarterback Marcus Mariota, tight end Kyle Pitts, and running back Cordarrelle Patterson.
Browns Clear Salary Cap Space
The trade will save the Browns $10 million in salary cap space this season. Cooper was scheduled to earn $20 million in 2023, the final year of his contract.
The Browns are expected to use the cap space to sign other players or extend the contracts of key players like quarterback Deshaun Watson and cornerback Denzel Ward.
