Atp Shanghai: Djokovic and Nadal Win Openers in Shanghai

Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal both won their opening matches at the Shanghai Masters on Tuesday.

Djokovic, the world number one, defeated Kyle Edmund 6-3, 6-2 in just over an hour. The Serbian was in control of the match from the start, breaking Edmund's serve twice in the first set and once in the second.

Nadal, the world number two, had a tougher time against Karen Khachanov, but eventually prevailed 6-3, 6-3. The Spaniard was broken twice in the first set, but he broke Khachanov's serve three times to take the set. Nadal then broke Khachanov's serve once in the second set to seal the victory.

Andy Murray also won his opening match, defeating Daniil Medvedev 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-1.

The Scot was in control of the match for long periods, but Medvedev fought back to take the second set in a tie-break. However, Murray broke Medvedev's serve twice in the third set to win the match.

Roger Federer is the only member of the "Big Four" not playing in Shanghai this week. The Swiss is taking a break after winning the US Open earlier this month.
