Carolina Panthers Beat Saints, Stay in Wild Card Race
Panthers Win 24-10
The Carolina Panthers kept their playoff hopes alive with a 24-10 victory over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. The Panthers improved to 6-9 on the season, while the Saints fell to 4-11.
Panthers quarterback Sam Darnold threw for 341 yards and two touchdowns. Christian McCaffrey rushed for 108 yards and a touchdown. The Panthers defense held the Saints to just 271 yards of offense.
The Panthers took an early lead with a field goal on their opening drive. The Saints responded with a touchdown, but the Panthers scored the next 17 points to take a commanding lead.
Darnold Leads the Way
Darnold had one of his best games of the season against the Saints. He completed 70% of his passes and did not throw an interception.
Darnold's performance was especially impressive considering that he was playing without several key offensive players. Wide receiver DJ Moore and tight end Tommy Tremble were both out with injuries.
McCaffrey Returns
McCaffrey made his return to the Panthers lineup after missing the previous four games with an ankle injury.
McCaffrey showed no signs of rust, rushing for 108 yards on 18 carries. He also caught three passes for 28 yards.
Defense Shines
The Panthers defense had a strong performance against the Saints. They held Saints quarterback Andy Dalton to just 164 passing yards and intercepted him once.
The Panthers also sacked Dalton four times and forced two fumbles.
Playoff Hopes Alive
The Panthers' victory keeps them in the hunt for a Wild Card berth. The Panthers are currently tied with the Washington Commanders for the seventh and final playoff spot in the NFC.
The Panthers have three games remaining on their schedule, including a Week 18 matchup against the Saints. The Panthers will need to win at least two of their remaining games to have a chance at making the playoffs.
