Carolina Panthers Trim Roster To 80 Players
Panthers Waive Three Players, Including 2021 Draft Pick
The Carolina Panthers have made several roster moves to get down to the NFL-mandated 80-man roster limit. The team has waived three players, including 2021 fifth-round pick Thomas Fletcher.
Fletcher Had Struggled in Training Camp
Fletcher, a defensive end from Alabama, had been a standout player for the Tide in college, but he has struggled to find his footing in the NFL. He failed to record a sack or tackle for loss in his rookie season, and he has not shown much progress in training camp this year.
The Panthers also waived offensive tackle David Moore and defensive tackle Derrick Tangelo. Moore is a veteran who has played for several teams in his career, while Tangelo is a rookie who signed with the Panthers as an undrafted free agent.
Final Roster Cuts Coming Soon
The Panthers must trim their roster down to 53 players by Tuesday, Aug. 30. The team will likely make several more roster moves in the coming days, including the release of some veteran players.
