Celtics Reacquire Daniel Theis in Four-Player Deal

The Center Returns to Boston After Short Stint in Houston

Deal Includes Swap of Dennis Schroder and Enes Freedom

The Boston Celtics and Houston Rockets have completed a four-player trade that sees center Daniel Theis return to Boston. According to ESPN, the Celtics are sending guard Dennis Schroder and center Enes Freedom to Houston in exchange for Theis. The move reunites Theis with the Celtics, where he spent the first four seasons of his NBA career. He was traded to the Rockets in February 2021 as part of a package that brought Tristan Thompson to Boston. Theis, 29, is averaging 8.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game this season. He is expected to provide the Celtics with a much-needed boost in the frontcourt, as they have been struggling with injuries to Robert Williams III and Al Horford. Schroder, 28, has been a disappointment in Boston this season, averaging just 10.9 points and 3.6 assists per game. Freedom, 29, has played sparingly for the Celtics, averaging 4.3 points and 2.8 rebounds per game. The trade is a win-win for both teams. The Celtics get a much-needed big man, while the Rockets get rid of two players who were not in their long-term plans.
