Falcon 9 Launch Sends 53 Starlink Satellites Into Orbit
SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket successfully launched 53 Starlink satellites into orbit on Tuesday, June 28, 2022.
The launch took place at 9:32 a.m. EDT from Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.
The launch was the 32nd dedicated Starlink mission for SpaceX, and it brought the total number of Starlink satellites in orbit to over 2,500.
The Starlink constellation is a network of satellites that SpaceX is building to provide global broadband internet coverage. The satellites are designed to be low-earth orbit (LEO), which means they orbit the Earth at a much lower altitude than traditional satellites.
This lower altitude allows the satellites to provide lower latency and higher speeds than traditional satellites. SpaceX plans to eventually have a constellation of over 12,000 Starlink satellites in orbit.
The launch of the 53 Starlink satellites is a significant milestone for SpaceX. It brings the company closer to its goal of providing global broadband internet coverage.
