Filip Stanković Joins Sampdoria on Loan from Inter Milan

Young Serbian Goalkeeper to Gain Experience in Serie A

Sampdoria Bolsters Goalkeeping Options with Stanković Arrival

Inter Milan's promising goalkeeper Filip Stanković has joined Sampdoria on a season-long loan deal, as confirmed by both clubs on Friday, July 7, 2023. The 20-year-old shot-stopper will spend the 2023/24 campaign with the Blucerchiati, seeking regular playing time to further his development.

Stanković, capped once by Serbia at the international level, has been highly rated since emerging through the youth ranks at Red Star Belgrade. He joined Inter in 2022 and made his senior debut for the Nerazzurri in a Coppa Italia match against Parma in January 2023, keeping a clean sheet in a 2-0 victory.

With established goalkeeper Samir Handanović set to depart Inter at the end of his contract this summer, Stanković was expected to compete with André Onana for the starting role next season. However, the arrival of experienced goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg has pushed Stanković down the pecking order, leading to his loan move to Sampdoria.

Sampdoria, who finished 19th in Serie A last season and narrowly avoided relegation, are keen to strengthen their goalkeeping options ahead of the new campaign. Stanković is expected to challenge Emil Audero for the starting spot, bringing youth and potential to the Blucerchiati's goalkeeping department.

The loan move represents a significant opportunity for Stanković to gain valuable experience in a competitive league and prove his worth at the highest level. Sampdoria will provide him with a platform to showcase his talent and continue his development, with the aim of returning to Inter as a more seasoned and accomplished goalkeeper.
