Early Life and Education

Francesco Merloni was born on 30 September 1925 in Fabriano, Italy. He was the son of Aristide Merloni, an entrepreneur who founded the Merloni Group, a leading Italian manufacturer of home appliances.

Merloni attended the University of Urbino, where he studied economics and business. He graduated in 1949 and joined the family business.

Career

In 1955, Merloni became the managing director of the Merloni Group. He quickly implemented a number of changes that helped to modernize the company and make it more competitive.

Under Merloni's leadership, the Merloni Group expanded rapidly. The company acquired a number of other appliance manufacturers, including Zanussi and Ariston.

By the 1980s, the Merloni Group was one of the leading appliance manufacturers in the world. The company's products were sold in over 100 countries.

Awards and Recognition

Merloni was the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions. He was named the "Manager of the Year" by the Italian magazine Capital in 1986.

In 1995, Merloni was awarded the "Cavaliere di Gran Croce Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana" by the Italian government.

Legacy

Merloni died on 18 June 2010. He was 84 years old.
