KL Rahul To Lead Team

Gautam Gambhir will not travel with the Indian team to South Africa for the three-match T20I series, starting from September 28. The former India opener was appointed as the interim head coach of the team for the tour, but has now decided to stay back in India due to personal reasons.

VVS Laxman To Be Interim Head Coach

In Gambhir's absence, VVS Laxman will take over as the interim head coach of the team. Laxman, who is currently the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), has previously served as the interim head coach of the team in 2022, when Rahul Dravid was down with COVID-19.

KL Rahul To Captain India

KL Rahul will lead the team in the T20I series against South Africa. Rahul, who was appointed as the vice-captain of the team for the tour, will now take over the captaincy in Gambhir's absence.

It is not yet clear whether Gambhir will join the team later in the tour. The BCCI is yet to make an official statement on the matter.

Laxman's Experience

Laxman has a wealth of experience in coaching. He has previously coached the Indian team in the 2016-17 season, and has also been the head coach of the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
