Guruprasad: A flawed genius who failed to reach his potential
Early life and career
Guruprasad was born in a small village in Karnataka, India, in 1950. He showed an early aptitude for mathematics and science, and went on to study at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology in Mumbai. After graduating, he joined the faculty of the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, where he quickly rose through the ranks.Guruprasad was a brilliant mathematician, and his work on representation theory and harmonic analysis earned him international recognition. He was awarded the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, India's highest scientific honor, in 1987. However, Guruprasad's personal life was troubled. He was a heavy smoker and drinker, and he often clashed with his colleagues. In 1998, he was forced to resign from his position at the Indian Institute of Science after being accused of sexual harassment.
Later life and death
After leaving the Indian Institute of Science, Guruprasad moved to the United States, where he taught at several universities. However, he was never able to fully recover from his personal problems. He died in 2012 at the age of 62.
