Commentator's distasteful remarks on Kamran Ghulam sparks outrage
A cricket commentator's distasteful and derogatory comments about Pakistani cricketer Kamran Ghulam has sparked outrage on social media.
The commentator, identified as Sikandar Bakht, referred to Ghulam as a "Multan pitch baby" during a live commentary of a Pakistan Super League (PSL) match between Multan Sultans and Quetta Gladiators on Sunday. Bakht's comments were widely condemned by fans and experts alike, who called them racist and insensitive.
Ghulam responds to the commentator's remarks
Ghulam, who was born in Multan, has since responded to Bakht's comments.
In a statement, Ghulam said, "I am deeply hurt and disappointed by the commentator's remarks. It is not fair to judge someone based on their place of birth. I am a proud Pakistani and I will continue to represent my country with honour."
PCB condemns the commentator's remarks
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has also condemned Bakht's remarks.
In a statement, the PCB said, "The PCB strongly condemns the distasteful and disrespectful comments made by the commentator. We believe that such comments have no place in cricket or any other sport. The PCB has taken up the matter with the relevant authorities and will take appropriate action."
