Magic's Wendell Carter: Questionable for Monday vs. OKC
Wendell Carter Jr.
Orlando Magic forward Wendell Carter Jr. is questionable to play Monday against the Oklahoma City Thunder due to a left foot plantar fascia strain, the team announced Sunday, citing coach Jamahl Mosley.
Carter Jr.'s injury
Carter Jr. initially injured his foot on Dec. 23 against the Indiana Pacers and missed the next four games. After returning to play in four games, he reaggravated the injury on Jan. 10 against the Golden State Warriors and has not played since.
The Magic are 2-2 in the four games Carter Jr. has missed. He is averaging 15.2 points and 9.8 rebounds per game this season.
Franz Wagner filling in
In Carter Jr.'s absence, Franz Wagner has started at power forward and averaged 20.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. Moritz Wagner has also seen an increase in playing time and is averaging 10.0 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.
Magic's next game
The Magic will host the Thunder on Monday at 7 p.m. ET. Oklahoma City has lost nine of its last 11 games and is currently in last place in the Western Conference.
Conclusion
Carter Jr.'s injury is a significant blow to the Magic, who are already without Markelle Fultz (toe) and Chuma Okeke (knee). If Carter Jr. is unable to play, Wagner will likely continue to start at power forward and the Magic will need other players to step up in his absence.
