Panthers release updated depth chart
Darnold remains QB1, Corral moves up
The Carolina Panthers have released their updated depth chart ahead of their Week 1 matchup against the Cleveland Browns, and there are a few notable changes from the previous version. Most notably, Sam Darnold remains the team's starting quarterback, while Matt Corral has moved up to the backup role.
Darnold has been the Panthers' starting quarterback since he was acquired from the New York Jets in 2021. He has started 11 games for Carolina, completing 60.8% of his passes for 2,527 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. Corral, on the other hand, was drafted by the Panthers in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He has yet to make his NFL debut.
The Panthers' decision to keep Darnold as their starting quarterback is not surprising. He is the most experienced quarterback on the roster, and he has shown flashes of potential in the past. However, Corral is a talented young quarterback who could push Darnold for the starting job in the future.
In addition to the changes at quarterback, the Panthers' depth chart also includes a few other notable moves. Christian McCaffrey is listed as the team's starting running back, followed by D'Onta Foreman and Chuba Hubbard. Terrace Marshall Jr. is listed as the team's starting wide receiver, followed by Robbie Anderson and Rashard Higgins.
The Panthers will open their season on the road against the Cleveland Browns on September 11th.
