UK watchdog fines Ticketmaster £1.25m for breaking consumer law

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has fined Ticketmaster £1.25 million for breaking consumer law.

The CMA found that Ticketmaster had failed to provide customers with clear and accurate information about additional fees, making it difficult for customers to compare prices and make informed decisions about whether to buy tickets.

The CMA also found that Ticketmaster had failed to give customers enough information about their rights when it came to cancellations and refunds.

Ticketmaster has agreed to make changes to its practices

Ticketmaster has agreed to make changes to its practices to address the CMA’s concerns. These changes include:

The CMA’s investigation was launched in 2019 following concerns raised by consumer groups and MPs.

The CMA’s chief executive, Andrea Coscelli, said: “Ticketmaster is one of the UK’s largest ticket sellers and it is important that it treats its customers fairly.

“Our investigation found that Ticketmaster had broken consumer law by failing to provide customers with clear and accurate information about additional fees and their rights when it came to cancellations and refunds.

“We have secured a number of commitments from Ticketmaster to make changes to its practices and we will be keeping a close eye on the company to ensure that it complies with the law.”

Ticketmaster has said that it is “committed to treating its customers fairly” and that it has “already made a number of changes to its practices” to address the CMA’s concerns.

The company said: “We welcome the CMA’s decision to close its investigation and we are pleased that the CMA has recognized the changes we have made to our practices.

“We are committed to treating our customers fairly and we will continue to work with the CMA to ensure that we comply with the law.”
